Sea Mirrors
In the midst of the frozen blue, the sea held its breath. And the sea ice danced with the tide. Early 2024 was a historical point regarding sea ice conditions in Svalbard. Even the fjord outside the settlement of Longyearbyen froze. Something that hasn’t happened since 2004. Unfortunately this didn’t last long, sea ice continues to melt rapidly, affecting the habitats of all arctic wildlife that depends on it. Svalbard faces climate change in an accelerated way. It warms twice as fast as the rest of the Arctic, and put to seven times faster than the global average.
